Åmot Lower Secondary School is located in the municipality of Åmot. The school has 160 students and about 25 employes.
Rena is the towncenter in our municipality and is located 30 km
north of Elverum, 175 km north of Oslo. The municipality has about
4400 inhabitants and the area is around 1339 square
kilometers. The name of the municipality Åmot means "where the river
meets and in the town centre the rivers
Glomma (Norway's longest) and the river Rena meets.
The municapilty is probably best known for the startingpoint of the
Birkebeiner skirace and mountainbikerace. Every year thousands
of skiers and bikers start at Rena and go across the mountain
to the olympic city of Lillehammer. There is also a famous ski
jumping hill
and we have the national centre for parachuting - Østre Æra.
Rena Military Camp was established 1992 and is within walking
distance from the towncentre. It's the newest and most modern where
you have training camps for the army and also for the
soldiers training for missions abroad.
There is a college in Rena that primarly educates students within
administration and informatics - Høgskolen i
Hedmark, Campus Rena.
The coreindustry of Rena, The Rena Paper Mill, was established 1913
by the monumental innovator Tollef Kilde. The Paper Mill
was closed in 1998.
The municapility has wonderful nature and terrain for athletes,
hunting and out-door-activities.
